Dental sedation helps patients feel calm and more cooperative about dental procedures, especially when they have more extensive work done. From three offices in Greenwich, Connecticut, the Bronx area of New York City, and Pomona, New York, Sangeeta Sethi, DDS, Ramji Sethi, DDS, and the team are experienced and caring dentists. They use safe and gentle forms of sedation to help adults, teens, and children feel less anxious and more relaxed during procedures. If you or your child is nervous about going to the dentist, the patient-centered team can help. Call the Sethi Dental location nearest you or request an appointment online.
Sethi Dental and the team use a couple of different types of in-office sedation to help calm patients' nerves.
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a mild sedative and the most non-intrusive form of sedation dentistry. It works relatively quickly and wears off just as easily, keeping you awake but relaxed.
General anesthesia puts patients to sleep during the dental procedure and takes a little longer to wear off afterward.
At Sethi Dental, the team delivers nitrous oxide to you or your child via a mask. Children easily breathe in a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide, and in about five minutes, they experience euphoria and relaxation.
Once calm and happy, the team can perform other necessary procedures, including administering a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area.
Your dentist may recommend general anesthesia for more complicated or lengthier dental work. The patient receives the anesthetic intravenously with general anesthesia, usually through a vein on the back of the hand.
Under general anesthesia, you or your child go to sleep during the entire procedure and don't feel any discomfort or pain.
First, a team member meets with you and your child to address any concerns and explain the procedure and the type of sedation your child will have.
Depending on whether your child needs nitrous oxide or general anesthesia, you may receive instructions on what to do before the scheduled appointment, such as:
It’s essential to follow any instructions the team gives you before sedation dentistry to ensure your child’s safety.
During the entire procedure, a team member monitors your child’s breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate, so you can feel assured of their health and safety. The team may also request your presence as your child wakes up after general anesthesia.
